Why a Faster Car Matters

The race is your light plus the car's run. A perfect light does not erase a slow car, and a red light throws the run out.

The winner is the lower total time. Total time is your reaction time plus how long the car took to cover the track. Both numbers are on the timeslip.

A worked example

These numbers are an example, so you can see the addition. They are not a target time for a specific car.

  • Car A leaves at 0.010 and runs 8.000. Total: 8.010.
  • Car B leaves at 0.080 and runs 7.400. Total: 7.480.

Car A had the better light. Car B had the better car, and Car B wins. A perfect light, which is 0.017 seconds or quicker, shaves a tiny slice off the total. A faster car shaves the whole run.

The other way around matters too. A red light blanks your total. The quicker car still loses if it left early. See How to Get a Good Reaction Time.

How to make the car side quicker

  1. Finish a race and read the 1,000-foot time, not only the reaction time.
  2. If the light is legal and the run is the problem, open the Garage.
  3. Tap the garage door icon at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Tap Parts.
  5. Tap the engine, intake, drivetrain, or electronics you might swap in, then tap Info.
  6. Compare Power, Torque, Endurance, and Handling with what is equipped now. Those four stats are explained in What the Car Stats Do.
  7. Tap Equip on the part you want. The next timeslip shows the parts that actually ran.

Swapping is the full path in How to Change Cars or Parts. Raising a part you already own is in How to Upgrade Cars or Parts.
