Unlike real-world golf, PGA TOUR Golf Shootout does not include penalty strokes. If a player's first shot goes out of bounds, the next shot starts again on the tee and counts as stroke 2, not stroke 3.
This is intentional because each match is played on a single hole, so players do not have later holes to make up for out-of-bounds shots as they would in real golf.
